Tent
We have fitted an Eezi-Awn roof top tent with a shower skirt as well as an Eezi-Awn side awning (Series 2000). We learnt the hard way that the awning must be pegged down even if there is the slightest bit of wind ....

Storage
Wolf storage boxes are excellent pieces of kit as they are very robust and fit together nicely. Your packing system is very important and these can make life much easier. They are not cheap but are worth the expense.

Gas cooker
We have bought a Campingaz double burner gas cooker and have mounted it to the back door so it’s easy to use for that all important quick cup of tea. We also have a 6L propane gas bottle which we hope will last us for most of the trip but its easy to fill up if it doesn't.

Shower
As water will be sparse on our trip we don’t want to be using it up on showers so Paul from Footloose4x4 suggested we take along a car wash which will help us to conserve water. You can also use your waffles as something to stand on while showering! For times when we have access to plenty of water we have a PVC fold up shower which will be suspended off the side of the Land Rover.

Fans
As we are going to be travelling through some pretty hot country with no aircon, we decided to purchase a small 12v fan which we have mounted inside the Land Rover and runs off the cigarette lighter. Will let you know if it works!

Water Purification
After travelling to Morocco in 2007 we realised just how important it is to be able to have access to decent water. We got Paul from Footloose4x4 to install a Nature Pure Water Purifier. This system is ecologically friendly and designed to make drinking water safe and convenient to purify.

GPS

We have a Garmin Vista Cx to keep us on the right tracks. GPS maps for most of Africa can be bought from tracks4africa.

Satellite Phone
We bought our Iridium satellite phone second hand from Richard Offenbach at Satphone - richard@callmonitor.com. We can receive free sms's which can be sent from your email so please send us news and gossip!

Cameras

We will take our Canon camera with us as well as several memory sticks to load our photos onto for storage and will leave CD’s behind as they will only get damaged on the bumpy roads. All our camera equipment will be stored in a pelican case when not it use to protect it from the elements (wind, dust and rain). Warehouse Express offered us great prices on all our camera equipment and pelican cases.

Music
We have installed a radio that allows us to plug our iPod directly into it which means that we don’t have to carry a wallet of CD’s with us.

Power
We have installed a Duritc power inverter which allows the recharging of 220 volt electrical equipment away from mains supplies using the vehicle 12 or 24 volt battery power supply. This means that our laptop, camera, ipod, cell phones etc can easily be recharged.
